Why America Is Fed Up With Rude Behavior?
(ContentDesk) March 27, 2004

Enough is enough! Do you want your kids acting like Justin Timberlake or Janet Jackson? Are you children's role models Britney Spears or Ludacris? No way! In an age of public profanity, lewd behavior and crass "wardrobe malfunctions," many Americans have had enough. Sadly, many celebrated American men and women have devalued traditional values, like integrity and graciousness and other elements of civilized culture. Reflecting this mentality, our economy, popular media and entertainment have reinforced ideas and personal behaviors that are less honorable and less civil. Dr. Michael James Hall, MD, author of THE AMERICAN GENTLEMAN, believes the answer to today's social ills, including crotch-grabbing performers, unruly fans, sex-crazed athletes and "girls gone wild," lies in a return to common sense, kindness and respect.

Dr. Hall suggests that most Americans, especially young men and women, prefer civility over chaos and discretion over disrespect — despite what unscrupulous media programming may presuppose. Interview a "new breed" in America today — a real gentleman.

Dr. Hall explodes the myth that chivalry is dead when he explains:

• Why today's women are looking for yesterday's gentlemen.

• How men can learn to celebrate women with kindness and respect

• How reality programming is perpetuating the practice of crass, boorish behavior among young people.

• How to be a gentleman or lady in an increasing crude America.

• Why role models are found in the home — not on TV.

• How celebrity bad behavior actually promotes civility.

Not dogmatic, The American Gentleman is written with certain questions in mind: How may "chivalry" is applied today? When does it become chauvinism? Are there present customs or behaviors that may be improved? How can men and women behave more harmoniously? In other words, is there civilized human behavior that can be identified, explained and formulated into a recognized standard and then applied to twenty-first century life? PRODUCERS: This topic is as timely and important as any in recent years.
